Distance Covered:

First time out on the 08 3S97, looked like being a perfect test day, with decisions being whether to go for 5.0m or 5.6m and thinking stronger winds would mean the Pocket Wave could be pressed into action too. Went for the 5.6m Remedy as I'd rather sail over powered than wallow in lulls ....

First impressions are all positive with the board .... only reservation is the fin it comes with being too straight a shape, and a bit big at 32cm, compared to my 07 3S97 which came with a more wave shaped 28cm fin. Next session I'll sail it with the 28cm fin from the 07 board to see how that works. I reckon the 32cm fin would be good with my 6.4m Remedy, so I won't chuck it out. It jumped well, planed earlier than the 07 version, and seemed a bit quicker too. It felt more directional, and wasn't as loose on the wave as the 07, but maybe a lot of this was the fin. With a smaller more swept back fin I'm sure it'll surf better. Set up as it was, I guess it'll have wider appeal for freeride bump & jump sessions as it get good speed and as a result gets good height of the ramps. Blasting across chop felt better too, the thinner rails and tail shape bounce about less when it's a bit hectic.

Had a good day, despite breaking UJ early on shearing the bottom bolt through the tendon ... lucky it went pretty close in so no stress with that. It turned out to be a good day for breakages, with Big Al putting a vent hole in his Boxer, 2 booms busting, Alan breaking mast extension, and Rob busting a JP. It wasn't a big day at Camber, it was actually relatively flat, so this run of breakages seems a little out of line with the conditions on the day.

Quite a lot of new faces at Camber which was pretty cool, and I reckon there were over 30 windsurfers out from dunes car park. Really nice to see my mate VFW Mark at Camber giving it some .... it was his first visit and his remarks 'I'm definately coming back here' so guess he enjoyed himself !

Good to catch up with all the usual suspects too .... apart from Tim who was enjoying Windfest (tho apparently the party was cr*p) so quite a good turnout all told for what was a pretty good session on the water.

Shame we didn't get some more wind later in the day, as getting out on my new Pocket Wave 78 and say 5.0m would have capped a decent weekend ... as it happens I've only tried 2 of 3 new boards this weekend .... so I'll have to look forward to using the Pocket Wave as the proper winds come ....
